How Mitchell & Lindsey Streamlined B2B Onboarding by Migrating from LearnDash
The Challenges
- Manual enrollment processes adding to employee workload
- Difficulty onboarding B2B users
- Users struggling to access important data and reports
The Outcomes
- Increased employee productivity due to streamlined workflow
- Improved customer satisfaction
- A scalable LMS they can use for years to come
“The Academy of Mine Team made our migration from LearnDash as quick and easy as possible, and our team (and our customers) are happier for it. ”
Held Back by Their Previous LMS
Before being acquired by Mitchell & Lindsey, Electrical Diagnostic Surveys was a previous user of ours, who switched to LearnDash after finding that our feature set was overkill for their volume of customers. After the acquisition, however, they found that LearnDash couldn’t keep up with the influx of new customers. Any cost savings from the platform were offset by a host of issues that increased their team’s workload:
- No bulk enroll process, meaning that enrollees for their B2B partners had to be manually enrolled one by one
- Emails to course managers and students also had to be sent manually
- A lack of access to key reporting metrics, like total time spent learning
The negative impact on productivity hit a breaking point, and their team knew it was time to replace LearnDash with something that would streamline their workflows, instead of slowing them down. That’s where Academy of Mine enters the scene.
A Platform That Met Their Needs
Mitchell & Lindsey customers can either purchase through their eCommerce store, or get in touch with a sales representative for additional assistance in creating a portal and getting it set up for their learners. About 95% of their business is B2B, training contractors and construction professionals, as well as facility managers seeking electrical safety training. With so many B2B customers, making their onboarding and portal setup process quicker and easier was a top priority.
They currently train several thousand users a year, mostly through on-demand training, but classes on select dates are led by virtual instructors. Instructor-led training was another feature set that their previous learning management solution was lacking, and their ideal solution would support both kinds of training.
After the issues they’d had with LearnDash, their must-have features were:
- B2B portals that offered bulk enrollment, vastly improving the setup process for the majority of their customers
- Email notifications that course managers could set up for their learners
- Easily accessible reports, so course managers could access important data around time spent learning and other student metrics
As mentioned above, some of their team was already familiar with Academy of Mine, having used us in the past. Based on that previous experience, they got in touch to ask about the migration process and see if we could meet their timeline, since they were looking to move quickly.
The Migration Process by the Numbers
Of course, in addition to moving their existing course content to a new LMS platform, they also needed to migrate all of their previous users and related course data. Having been in business for fifteen years, they had thousands of users who needed continued access to that data.
The migration would need to cover:
- About 30,000 total users, split across three user roles (admin, course manager, and student, with course manager being the portal administrator who needed to be able to add/enroll users and view user reports)
- Over 350 groups, each with their own portal
- Three courses, with 20 lessons between them, including quizzes, text, PDF, and video course material (and the videos needed to be hosted within their new LMS)
For all previous users, they needed to migrate course enrollment data and detailed course progress for users (including the ability for users to see all the courses they’ve completed). Additionally, for every user who has completed a course before, we needed to generate user certificates to prove course completion, with name, completion date, and time pulled from their prior LMS. With ~30,000 previous users, that was no small amount of data to move, but careful planning and preparation kept the process running smoothly.
Now, Mitchell & Lindsey is set up for future success — and so are their customers. And on our end, with so many customers coming to us from LearnDash, we’ve since created custom scripts to streamline those migrations even further. If you’re a LearnDash user running into the same limitations that Mitchell & Lindsey were, get in touch today — we’d love to help.
